FAQ

How old do I have to be?
- 12 years old is the minimum age and 18 is the maximum for cadets. People 18 and above can become senior members.

Will I be required to join the military?
- No, the Civil Air Patrol is a volunteer organization and does not recruit for the military.

Who supervises the cadets?
- Cadets always have at least one senior member supervising activities. Our senior members are also required to
be fingerprinted and screened by the FBI as well as having to take a Cadet Protection Course as part of their initial training.

What is an orientation flight?
- Cadets are given the opportunity to go on 5 power orientation flights and 5 glider orientation flights in a CAP plane. Orientation flights are always free for cadets.

How much time is required each week?
- CAP is a volunteer organization so there are no "time requirements," but as with most other programs you only get out what you put into it. So it is recommended that members participate regularly within the squadron as well as participate in wing and national activities to get the most out of the program.

Where do I get a uniform, and how much will it cost?
- We have a supply of uniforms and will donate uniform items to cadets who need them. The only items you will need to purchase are items we don't have, like boots. New cadets are given a 100 dollar voucher to purchase a Air Force Style service uniform (Dress Blues) after they earn their first promotion.
